 In 2000, the Art and Antique Collection of the late Michael C. Williams was left to the University of Victoria along with Swans Suite Hote, and various commercial and residential buildings.
Mr. Williams accumulated one of the largest privately owned art collections in Western Canada and the tradition of filling Swans with the majority of the collection has been maintained by the University. His collection consists of paintings, sculptures, furniture and antiques that total approximately 1600 pieces. They include historical and contemporary Northwest Coast First Nation’s art; two and three-dimensional works by local and national artists; and furniture dating from the 17th to 20th century.
For the most part, the pieces in his collection are from local artists and are eclectic, large, personal, colourful, exotic and unconventional. Works by Roy Henry Vickers, Brad Passuti, Noah Becker, Glen Howarth, Jack Shadbolt, Myfanwy Spencer Pavelic, Richard Ciccimarra, Norval Morisseau, Toni Onley, and George Rammell grace the walls of Swans guest rooms and the public areas of the Brewpub, Wild Saffron Bistro and hotel lobby
 Two pieces of particular note include a Roy Henry Vickers Tshimshian Halibut and Octopus Red Cedar House Post, currently displayed in the Penthouse which depicts the artist’s grandfather’s family legend, and the Trudeau Portrait (one of the series of the Official Portrait in Ottawa’s House of Commons) by Myfanwy Spencer Pavelic displayed in the Brewpub.
Today Swans guests continue to be stimulated (and in some cases titillated) by the expansive collection.
