Visitors from Europe
European passport holders do not require a visa to visit Canada. All you need is a valid passport, a return ticket and sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependents during your stay in Canada. European visitors to Canada who wish to also visit the United States must possess valid passports to be admitted; residents of Portugal are further required to have a visa.
What identification is necessary when crossing the U.S./Canada border?
Identification is necessary for Customs and Immigrations. Due to heightened security at the border crossing all travelers must now travel with a passport. Please carry photo identification with you!
What identification do children need?
Adults are required to provide identification and proof of citizenship for each child or infant. If only one parents is traveling with the child, they must have written authorization from the other parent or proof of custody along with a telephone number where they can be reached to verify the authorization.
What if you are not a United States or Canadian born citizen?
If you are not a United States or Canadian born citizen you’ll be required to have a passport and possibly a visa.
What do U.S. Permanent Residents require?
A Permanent Resident or holder of the immigration “green card” needs to present a valid card at the border.
What can U.S. citizens returning to United States bring back in value of goods?
U.S. residents returning from Canada less than 48 hours may bring back merchandise for their use up to a value of $200 duty free, subject to limitation on liquor, cigarettes and cigars. This exemption is per person and may not be grouped together with others. If any portion of this exemption is exceeded; the entire amount is subject to duty. For those returning after 48 hours an $800 exemption per person is applicable, which may be grouped together with other family members and duty is applied to amounts exceeding $800.
